Like the pulse of a city.
With each look
my heart dances.
is like fire…
Like a bubble.
bumping and jiggling.
Warping until they pop.
as it cascades outward.
There once was a clear definition,
Black and white.
No questions or hesitations.
Things were easier then.
Fumbling along in the dark,
Hoping to find the switch
Is the light,
really that much better?
makes my heart race,
when I picture you falling off a cliff.
“here is our optional prompt for this, the seventh day of NaPoWriMo. I challenge you to write a poem in which each line except the last takes the form of a single, declarative sentence. Then, the final line should take the form of a question.”
The stars twinkle as night stretches across the sky.
Birds quiet, their songs held for the next day.
Tress quietly sway in the gentle breeze.
The Earth exhales, releasing the tension of the day.
My mind turns to the day’s events.
My heart smiles.
How could life be any better?
“And now, our (completely optional) prompt for the day! This might seem like a bit of a downer, but I challenge you to write a valediction.”
Fearless, unstoppable and strong.
Like the force of water, eroding away at the Earth.
I was the water.
Flowing, moving, shifting. Powerful.
It eats away, erodes as it passes by.
Humbling, limits, acceptance.
I am now the rock, being shaped by time.
Inevitable. Goodbye youth.
I’ve never written in this style, so this may prove to be interesting….
Here we go….
when I awake.
Life all around me stirs,
the search begins for food and mates.
